My soil is hard clay, so I have tried whenever possible to use raised beds. The callas are not in hard clay.
Thanks – that’s interesting! Sounds like we have the same soil. The oriental poppies don’t seem to do to badly on it. Maybe they manage to miss the summer heat on that awful clay and enjoy the spring, then autumn, rains when they come into growth again?
Beautiful.
I echo Joanna. Beautiful. Beautiful. For some reason I’ve never been successful with them.
Thanks John – I am actually always surprised that they do ok on the clay that I seem to repeatedly garden on. What’s your soil like?

I’m wordless too They are so bohemian!
Bohemian is a good word for them Paula – is it the little shawl-like fringes, or what?!!
Wonderful flowers and photo!
Thanks Amy!
So lovely! I have planted dozens in a new garden bed, so I hope to have them as pretty as yours next year!
Here’s to yours, Matt!
