Joining in with Cathy at ‘Words & Herbs’ again to try and spread a little cheer in a tumultuous November. Here we have warm, sunny, late autumn days and quite harsh frosts at night. Time in the garden during the second wave of the coronavirus does the soul good when the world is such a worrying, unpredictable place. We are so lucky, we gardeners.
This year we’ve seen an explosion in the bird population – and so many blackbirds, unusual for this place. Better still, we suspect they’ve learnt to eat the caterpillars of the box tree moth. Butterflies are continuously on the increase – I think we now supply every food plant they could desire! Scarce swallowtails lingering over the lavender hedges during the month when these roses were flowering were a particular joy. Next year, perhaps, I’ll capture them with my camera.
Have a wonderful Tuesday and keep smiling!

Lovely Cathy! I bet your garden smells wonderful when the roses and lavender are in flower. 😃
It does! Looking forward to more next year!
Roses and butterflies. Perfect 🦋
Thanks!
Nice roses, I plant for butterflies, too. They are a lot of fun to watch. The lizards here eat more that the birds, I think.
We didn’t deliberately plant for the butterflies, but since they are on the increase, I’ll be thinking of them more in future – and hopefully photographing them more next year!
A friend got me into butterfly gardening, it is addictive.
How lovely, it sounds like you have got a good ecosystem going there. Love the faded rose.
Thanks so much – the ‘faded’ one isn’t actually so faded. It’s ‘Souvenir de la Malmaison’. Tends to be two-tone like that. And I think we had some rain, chilly weather, which would have affected it.
Tumultuous indeed, and your roses are a lovely balm. Thank you!
Thanks to you for visiting! I hope things are relatively peaceful for you at home at least!
Luscious! A wonderful share, Cathy, many thanks!
Thank you! Have a good Wednesday.
Beautiful roses Cathy. How very heartening it must be to have both your bird and butterfly population on the increase 😄
I can imagine your garden filled with birdsong and butterflies floating by. These flowers have cheered me immensely. Beautiful roses. I love the apricot ones especially.
It was, it was. I really felt I’d achieved something this year.
That last pink one is such a pretty shade, Cathy
