Taking my morning walk around the garden I was inspired to post a vase today by the sight of armfuls (you have to believe me – you won’t see them here!) of philadelphus (no name) …
and Iris pallida.
Perfect early May colours.
I added Hesperis matronalis, Dame’s Violet …
and two aquilegias (one pale blue, one dark purple – again, no names, they are seeding everywhere in the Hornbeam Gardens, although I originally sowed Hardy Plant Society seed of ‘Green Apples’ and a ‘dark form’).
Now have a look at everyone else’s vases on Cathy’s Rambling in the Garden. And thanks to Cathy for hosting!
Just exactly what was needed this morning. Thank you, Cathy!! xo
You are welcome!
Definitely dreamy! I just got a tiny Philadelphus seedling so I am dreaming of the day when there will be armloads of fragrant flowers. Both of those Aquilegia are some of the prettiest I’ve seen.
The philadelphus were cuttings taken on dawn raids in the town I used to live in. It grows so well here. Aquilegia are such cross-pollinators & self-seeders that I tried to limit the colour range in that part of the garden. It sort of works!
How lovely to have armfuls of ANYthing, Cathy! The philadelphus must smell gorgeous – sometimes we get some hanging over next door’s fence. I have A Green Apples and am wondering if it might be responsible for some cross pollination too, although I do have the originals. Lovely photos
I would love to have the original Cathy! But actually I just feel lucky to have them sowing!
Really love those pale lilac colours of the aquilegia and Iris. Perfect!
What a glorious bouquet, Cathy! Each individual element is wonderful and could stand on its own but they combine beautifully. I planted a Philadelphus here a few years ago. It hasn’t upped and died on me but it hasn’t grown much and it’s never flowered – it’s living on borrowed time.
Gorgeous arrangement, Cathy. I love those iris, such a sweet colour!
A bounteous bouquet…and the light is superb. I used to remember light like this when I was little….
Lovely purples, very romantic and country cottage. Philadelphus is in my top ten and I’m eagerly awaiting the flowering this year.
Alison – thanks for your comment. I’m sure you also have a vase, and I’ll visit it soon !
Those Irises – swoon!
Not just any iris, but Iris pallida!
